The Scientific Council exercises ongoing supervision over the activities of the Institute, ensuring in particular the high level of its scientific activity and the development of people starting their scientific careers.

In particular, the Scientific Council:

  • defines the Institute's profile, taking into account the directions of development in global science;
  • adopts programs for research, cooperation with foreign scientific institutions and publishing activities;
  • approves reports on the Institute's activities;
  • evaluates the scientific activity of the Institute's scientific staff;
  • conducts doctoral and postdoctoral procedures, and submits applications for the award of academic titles, within the limits of its authority;
  • adopts the statute of the Institute and its amendments;
  • adopts the method and procedure for conducting competitions for individual scientific positions;
  • appoints a disciplinary spokesman at the Institute;
  • adopts resolutions on other matters reserved for the Scientific Council by law, the Academy's statute, or the Institute's statute;
  • gives its opinion on the annual scientific plan and financial plan submitted for its assessment.
